Monster Trove: Things Others Swore They Saw

Shikigami

Small

About

A slip of paper, cut and folded and written on, doing exactly what it was told to do and nothing else at all. It may be wearing the shape of a bird, a child, a servant or a wall of fire; underneath, it is the paper. Onmyoji send them to watch, to carry, and occasionally to kill, and the instruction is fixed at the moment of folding. A shikigami cannot improvise, cannot be reasoned with, and cannot stop.

Special Attack

Executes the Instruction: it pursues one named task with total single-mindedness and will ignore everything else, including its own destruction, to complete it. Cutting Edge: slashing, melee 5 ft, +2 to hit, 1d4+1, paper-thin and deeper than it looks.

Special Defense

It Is the Paper: whatever it appears to be, the paper is the creature. Any attack that would burn, tear or soak paper deals double damage; anything else deals half. A creature that works out what it is looking at should be rewarded for it. Fixed Purpose: it cannot be charmed, frightened, bargained with or turned. The instruction is not an opinion it holds.
