No dungeon expedition is complete without the possibility of discovering something extraordinary. The new Open Dungeons Magic Item Generator creates original weapons, potions, rings, armor, wondrous objects, and other enchanted gear with a single roll.
Unlike a conventional random table, the generator does not simply select a completed item from a fixed list. It magically produces interesting and unique magic items, so unique, you'll unlikely ever see the same thing twice.
Three Ways to Create
The generator offers three creation modes:
- Random generates a complete surprise with one click.
- Choose lets you select an item type and whether the item should suit Early or Seasoned Explorers.
- Customize allows you to edit the generated name, description, statistics, uses, and effect.
With 27 supported item types - including weapons, shields, armor, potions, rings, wands, scrolls, cloaks, instruments, charms, and wondrous items - the generator can furnish anything from a roadside cache to a legendary vault.

Ready for the Table
Each generated item includes a complete, easy-to-read entry containing:
- A unique name
- Item type and descriptive tags
- A physical description
- Relevant bonuses, damage, or uses
- A rules-ready magical effect
- An intended Explorer/Adventurer experience range
The results follow Open Dungeons terminology and mechanical conventions, making them easy to introduce during play. The DN always has the final say, of course: every generated item can be adjusted to fit the adventure, campaign, and world.
Save, Customize, and Copy Your Favorites
Found something worth keeping? Save it in your browser and return to it later. Saved items remain on that device, and the generator can store up to 100 creations.
You can also copy an item's complete text for use in session notes, adventure preparation, or your campaign records. If an item is almost right, switch to Customize mode and reshape it before saving or copying it.
Built for Inspiration
The generator is useful whenever you need:
- A memorable reward after an unexpected encounter
- Treasure for an unplanned room or location
- Inspiration while writing an adventure
- A strange object around which to build a quest
- A starting point for a handcrafted magical item
Every roll is intended to offer a useful idea, not an unchangeable ruling. Keep it, revise it, or let it inspire something entirely different.
