A Bakezori is an old straw sandal that has awakened after years of neglect. One eye opens above a long tongue, two wiry arms sprout from the straps, and it bounds through the house shouting fragments of work songs. It resents waste and careless ownership, but its revenge begins with noise, missing footwear, and bruised ankles, escalating only after continued neglect.
