Asanbosam
About
It hangs in the high branches with its legs down, and its feet end in iron hooks. It does not descend. It waits over a trail with the hooks a foot above head height and lifts whoever walks under, and the first anyone below knows about it is the sound a person makes going up. Hunters in asanbosam country walk with their eyes on the canopy and their weapons already high, which slows them down enormously, which is part of the cost of the thing.

Special Attack
Hook and Lift: piercing, melee 10 ft from above, +4 to hit, 2d6+3 (two hooks). On a hit with both, the target is lifted off the ground, cannot act except to struggle, and takes 2d6+3 automatically each round until cut free or dropped. Iron Bite: piercing, melee 5 ft, +4 to hit, 2d6+3, used on what it has already lifted.
Special Defense
Above the Fight: while in the canopy it can only be reached by ranged attacks, reach weapons, thrown weapons or by climbing to it. Melee from the ground simply cannot connect and a party that has not planned for that will spend the first three rounds discovering it. Cut Down or Break Free: a lifted creature may spend its turn on a Strength Chance Roll against a TN the DN sets for the hook's depth to tear loose, falling and taking 1d6. An adjacent creature with any slashing weapon can cut the victim free of the hook automatically in one turn, same fall, same 1d6. Drops Its Catch: brought below half HP it releases whatever it is holding and withdraws upward through the canopy.
