Viy is a massive underworld being whose eyelids hang so heavily that attendants must lift them. While the eyes remain covered, he senses movement through earth and command. When they open, concealment fails and the gaze strikes directly through false walls, protective circles, and hidden identities. The danger lies in the attendants and the approaching moment of sight.

Keep the Eyes Closed: each of Viy's two attendants has 20 HP, AC 14, and DR 0. Defeating, holding, or distracting both prevents the gaze. Viy has -3 AC while the eyelids are being lifted and cannot move during that round.
