Monster Trove: Old Fears and Hungry Things

Sharabha

Gargantuan

About

Sharabha is an immense divine beast, often described with eight legs, leonine power, wings, and the ability to restrain forces even more destructive than itself. It appears when righteous fury has lost every boundary and must be stopped without denying the cause that awakened it. Sharabha is therefore a counter-monster: terrifying because something else has become worse.

Special Attack

Eightfold Restraint: bludgeoning, melee 20 ft, +7 to hit, 3d10+5. A struck Gargantuan or smaller creature makes a Tough save. On a failure it is held, loses flight, cannot use an attack affecting an area, and takes 2d10 bludgeoning damage at the beginning of each of Sharabha's turns while the hold continues. A successful save avoids the hold and ongoing damage but does not undo the initial strike. Wing-Cage: when Eightfold Restraint first holds a target, every other creature within 30 ft immediately makes a Quick save. Those that fail take 2d8 bludgeoning damage, are pushed to the edge of the area, and cannot enter it again until the beginning of Sharabha's next turn. A successful save avoids the damage, movement, and exclusion. This occurs as part of Eightfold Restraint.

Special Defense

Purpose Is Restraint: Sharabha will not attack creatures that cease contributing to the greater destruction. Breaking its hold requires 30 damage in one round or resolving the fury it came to contain.
