The Mušḫuššu is a scaled dragon with a serpent's neck, horned head, feline forelegs, and birdlike hind feet. It is associated with divine authority, city walls, and processional gates, far from the habits of a wilderness predator. A living Mušḫuššu recognizes symbols of legitimate rule, but it also recognizes when those symbols have been stolen, inherited falsely, or emptied of duty.
