Monster Trove: Old Fears and Hungry Things

Lubber Fiend

Large

About

The lubber fiend appears to be a large, hairy man sleeping beside the hearth while work remains unfinished. Leave food and make no complaint, and by morning the wood is stacked, grain is moved and every heavy task has somehow been completed. Wake it, mock it or attempt to pay wages, and the same strength is applied to doors, carts and anyone giving orders. It wants hospitality without service and service without being watched.

Special Attack

Hearthside Fist: bludgeoning, melee 5 ft, +3 to hit, 1d10+3. Night's Work: the lubber fiend moves or breaks one unattended object within 20 ft weighing no more than a loaded wagon. A creature struck by the moving object makes a Quick save or takes 1d8 bludgeoning damage.

Special Defense

Do Not Watch: if given a full meal and an undisturbed place beside the fire, it will complete one night of heavy labor without payment. Anyone who deliberately watches the work ends the bargain. A church bell forces it to leave the building until the next sunset but does not make it forget an insult.
