From the front she is the most beautiful woman the charcoal burners have ever seen, and from behind she is a hollow tree, bark and rot and a cow's tail, and this is not a disguise she maintains - it is simply what she is from that angle. She is generous to men who are polite and ruinous to men who are not. Marry her in a church and the tail comes off and the beauty goes with it, and what remains is an ordinary-looking wife with the strength of four men and a long memory.
