A moray eel waits inside reef holes, drowned masonry and narrow rock cracks with its mouth opening and closing to breathe. A reaching hand or bleeding fish brings a sudden bite, after which the eel twists backward into shelter. Pulling against it worsens the wound and gives the animal the leverage of the entire reef.
Special Attack
Anchor Bite: piercing, melee 5 ft, +3 to hit, 1d8+1. The target makes a Quick save; on a failed save, the eel holds it at the crevice mouth. Pulling free without first succeeding on a Tough save deals another 1d6 damage.
Special Defense
Crevice Shelter: while inside a reef hole or narrow crack, the eel gains +2 AC and only one creature at a time can reach it with a melee attack. Smoke, poison or a hooked pole can force it into open water at the DN's discretion.
