Cockatrice

A cantankerous tangle of rooster, bat, and serpent no larger than a dog, whose bite turns flesh slowly to cold stone. Cockatrices nest in ruins and rocky scrub, squabbling endlessly among themselves, and a lair is easily known by the statues of foxes, hawks, and careless travellers frozen mid-step around it.

Petrifying Bite: control, melee 5 ft, +1 to hit, 1d6+3 piercing and save Con Tough or begin turning to stone - restrained on a failed save and petrified if it fails again at the start of its next turn, cooldown 3 rounds.

Erratic Flight: its clumsy, darting flight gives ranged attacks against it -2 to hit. Keen Sight: not easily surprised. Senses: Echolocation (60 ft).
