The Beast of Gévaudan is a huge, red-brown predator remembered through contradictory reports of a wolf, hyena, mastiff, or something trained to hunt people. Its chest is broad, its tail long, and its hide carries dark stripes along the back. It attacks isolated travelers with unsettling selectivity, then abandons livestock and easy carrion as if terror were part of its appetite.
