Ankou

In each parish the last person to die in the year takes up the office for the next one. He drives a cart with an axle that wants greasing, and you hear it long before you see it, and hearing it is not itself fatal. He has a list. He is working through it in order. He is not interested in negotiation, but he is perfectly willing to talk, and he has been every single person in this parish who died last, and he remembers all of it.

The Cart Stops: he halts outside a dwelling and names one creature. That creature must save Wis Mind, fail save roll 3d6+3 necrotic, cooldown 3 rounds. He names only creatures already dying, gravely ill or fated, and the DN should know which before the encounter begins. Scythe: slashing, melee 10 ft, +4 to hit, 3d6+3, blade turned outward, used only on those who physically obstruct the cart.

Cannot Be Killed: reduced to 0 HP he sets down the shafts, and the office passes to whoever struck the final blow, immediately and permanently. Delayed, Not Denied: he can be blocked, argued with, delayed a night, or sent to another parish first. Everything on the list still happens. Everyone who has tried this has bought time and nothing else, which is sometimes exactly what was needed.
