    An Abura-sumashi is a squat, stone-faced spirit seen on lonely mountain passes where oil was once stolen from roadside shrines. Its round head rises above a straw cloak, and its silence feels more like judgment than shyness. It blocks travelers carrying stolen goods, follows those who lie about them, and steps aside for anyone who makes honest restitution.

    Special Attack

    Oil-Thief's Burden: bludgeoning, melee 5 ft, +3 to hit, 1d6+1. A creature carrying stolen property also makes a Mind save or becomes weary until the property is returned.

    Special Defense

    Account Settled: presenting proof that a stolen object was returned lowers its AC by 2 and ends its pursuit. It cannot cross a shrine threshold after an honest offering of lamp oil has been placed there.
