Dull steel, a foot long, ringed with fine seams like a closed telescope.

Only wizards and clerics may command it. At a word the rod runs out to any length up to twenty feet and locks there, rigid enough to prop a hatch, span a pit, or bear 300 pounds, and holds until it is dismissed.
