Brass, wound at the rim with a knotted log-line, with a small double sand-glass set at its center that runs whichever way it is hung.

The wearer always knows their exact heading and distance from any place they have personally stood. Each charge plots an accurate course to a place the wearer has only heard described, naming every turn, and holds good for one journey. The sand fuses into a single bead when depleted; the reckoning of every place the wearer has stood stays with them for the rest of their life.
