    Forty leaves of thin grey paper stitched along one edge, each slightly damp and slightly warm.

    Effect

    Pressed flat against a written or engraved surface up to 2 feet square and held there one minute, a leaf takes an exact copy, including any writing scraped off, painted over, or burned away within the past year. The copy holds for a week and then fades, and that leaf will take nothing further. There are forty leaves and the sheaf cannot be added to.
